1,699 speakers, one referral, zero marketing spend.
The largest order in Gift Hippo's history — sourced, quoted, and fulfilled personally, start to finish.
The ask
In July 2023, Katie Robertson of Jacobs Technology Group (Tullahoma, TN) reached out through Gift Hippo's Hirsch distributor referral channel looking for a corporate holiday gift: custom-branded speakers for employees, budget-conscious and under $100 a unit.
What happened
- Recommended the JBL Clip 4 at $75/unit plus shipping after the initial JBL Flip 6 option ran over budget — matching the product to the real constraint instead of just quoting the first ask.
- Scaled with the customer as the order grew from an initial exploratory quote of around 2,000 units to a final order of 1,699 units of JBL Flip 6, unbranded, shipped in 3 full pallets.
- Coordinated production timing and logistics directly with the customer — delivery estimates, pallet counts, ship dates — through to final delivery.
- Handled a partial credit-card / partial-ACH payment split with the supplier to keep the order moving before customer funds cleared.
The result
Paid in full via ACH in August 2023. Still the single largest deal in Gift Hippo's history — closed entirely through an inbound referral, no marketing spend, no outbound campaign.
Why it matters
Gift Hippo has never actively pursued outbound sales. This deal — handled personally, start to finish, from a single relationship — is the proof point that demand exists at scale. The constraint has never been demand; it's been nobody asking.
